A Writer's Viewpoint

Some readers enjoy romance novels with hot and steamy content. There are plenty of books out there that feature just that on nearly every page. If that’s what most people love, they should have no problem finding it. I tend to write just the opposite. My books are romances with the emphasis on story, story and more story. Most of the character’s intimate forays are merely alluded to and if not, they are left to the reader’s imagination.

Since my books, the latest being Dawn’s Harbor, do not exactly fit into the Christian category, they find themselves in a never never land where many critics do not know what to make of them. Therefore, they tend to get judged adversely. Here are some examples: too much going on, not enough sex, over the top, unrealistic situations, etc. etc. Can fiction really be over the top and unrealistic? We are the generation that has lived through headlines such as Columbine, Rwanda, 9/11, and Jeffrey Dahmer, to name just a few. Reality is indeed more horrific and over-the-top than most fiction.

Now back to the original topic. Those who are quickly bored by old-fashioned storytelling should not trouble themselves to read my books. They should continue reading the works of the talented, market-friendly writers who give them exactly what they want and expect.

Happily for me, there are those who still enjoy occasional flights of fancy, prose and in-depth character studies. My writing is far from perfect, but I am just trying to convey what I enjoy, and possibly offer an alternative to erotica. To those readers I say thank you and welcome aboard.
